Welcome to the International Print Biennale 2014 


Print Awards 2014 
37 shortlisted artists have been selected from 740 entries from across the globe and will be on show at Northern Printand Hatton Gallery throughout the Biennale.

The Preview event will take place from 5pm - 6.30pm at Northern Print and from 6pm - 8pm at Hatton Gallery with the winners announced at 7pm at Hatton Gallery. Who is your favourite?

Bedwyr Williams was invited to exhibit by selector David Nash RA and has made a new series of prints specifically for the Biennale. The prints are film posters for his recent film ‘Echt’ commissioned by Tramway, Glasgow earlier this year. You can see the film and hear Bedwyr Talk about his work on Saturday 28 June at Star & Shadow as part of the Contemporary Art Society Tour. (details left)

Using photographic images of reductive architectural interiors and landscapes Carolyn Bunt engages the viewer intensely in the act of looking and concentrates on a visual scrutiny into which the viewer is drawn.

The Courtauld Gallery, London

This Summer Showcase provides visitors with an introduction to the largest but least known part of the Gallery’s outstanding collection – its holding of prints. This selection of 30 remarkable and intriguing examples spans more than 500 years and encompasses a variety of rintmaking techniques. Also showing until July are two additional print exhibitions Impress: Printmaking expanded in Contemporary Art and Purpose and Process: British and French Printmaking 1600-1900.

Printmaking classes
Throughout the Biennale, Northern Print will be running its usual programme of printmaking classes and courses taught by a team of expert printmakers so if you are visiting the North East why not make the most of your trip by learning a new skill? Forthcoming classes includeCyanotype on Sat 12 July and Introduction to Screenprinting on Fri 18 and Sat 19 July.
