MGC announces its second juried competition and exhibition devoted to miniature prints. The entry deadline is Monday, August 15, 2016.
The 2nd NY International Miniature Print Exhibition will take place from November 1 to December 18, 2016 in the gallery at the studio with an opening reception during IFPDA Print Week in NYC.
The juror will be David Kiehl, the Nancy and Fred Poses Curator of Prints at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY.

Cynthia Back is a printmaker and book artist working in intaglio and relief. She focuses on landscape: water, forests, and the ways in which they are being transformed by environmental degradation. Conveying a deep attachment to the earth; it's ever-changing pattern, color, and shape, the tension between these oppositional forces is important to her work.
Cynthia has exhibited widely both in the U.S. and internationally including solo exhibitions at Fleisher Art Memorial, Philadelphia, PA in 2015, Pennswood Art Gallery, Newtown, PA in 2014, Galerie Pascal, Suchitoto, El Salvador in 2012, the Fireside Gallery, Main Line Unitarian Church, Devon, PA, in 2011 and at Abington Art Center, Abington, PA in 2010.
Her work is included in numerous private and corporate collections, including The Library of Congress, the New York Public Library, the Newark Public Library, Newark, New Jersey, the Free Library of Philadelphia, The New-York Historical Society, Pfizer, Inc., The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, NYC, Duke University, and Oberlin College-Special Collections.

Luanda Lozano and Moses Ros-Suárez are exhibiting in Tyranny's Tear: Mending a Dominican Trauma, a group show of 19 artists at the BronxArtSpace, on view from May 11 to June 14, 2016, with an artists reception on May 13, from 6-9 pm. Curated by Linda Cunningham and conceptualized by Moses Ros-Suárez, there will also be a printmaking workshop on Saturday, May 14th that is free to the public, a staged reading of "La Caida de Trujillo" written by Carmen Rivera on Saturday May 21 and Artists talks and interviews on Wednesday May 18th. Robin Dintiman is participating in an Art Materials Safety Roundtable andQ&A on Saturday, May 21, 2016, from 3:00 - 4:00 pm, at the Catskills Art Society (CAS) Art Center. In this discussion, moderated by Kalika Stern, artist and director of the Society for Folk Arts Preservation, artists will talk about their experiences working with traditional and with innovative materials, dealing with pigments, chemicals, solvents and acids, and about the best practices informed by modern medical and environmental science. Also participating are Naomi Teppich, sculptor, Martin Springetti, painter/silkscreen artist and Kathe Frantz, painter. A video by Dr. Adrienne Spouse, a top US environmental medicine physician, will open the discussion. The spring edition of CELEBRATING PRINT magazine (founded and edited by Katerina Kyselica) is centered around an essay on printmaking as a phenomenon of thinking, placing matrix and its potential image at the beginning of all things. Through the works of three seasoned artists, the edition explores the possibilities that printmaking as a versatile and open art medium offers in an artist's search for visual forms. The featured project demonstrates how adapting a traditional printmaking technique, lithography, may lead to a playful and expressive method of printing sought after in contemporary art practice. Art for Every Home: Associated American Artists 1934-2000
is now on view at the Grey Art Gallery of New York University, 100 Washington Square East, New York City. The exhibition explores how Reeves Lewenthal began AAA as a NY-based business marketing prints by well known "American Scene" artists of the day, such as Benton, Curry and Wood, to the middle and upper middle classes in the US. From the depression years onward, through the Second World War and then expanding its selling strategies during the post-war prosperity, AAA succeeded in stimulating an interest in print collecting. Will Barnet: 1950s Works on Paper
at the Alexandre Gallery, 724 Fifth Avenue, 4th Floor, in NYC, includes 35 works on paper spanning from 1953 to 1960. Not previously exhibited, these colorful works date from Barnet's "Indian Space" period, so-called, because of his study of Native American ideas on form and design. Drawing Dialogues: Selections from the Sol Lewitt Collection
is one of two new exhibitions at The Drawing Center. Consisting of over 100 works by more than 60 artists, curated by Claire Gilman, "it is the first large scale exhibition of the collection in over thirty years and focuses on minimal and conceptual drawing which forms the core of the collection". The show will continue to June 12, 2016. Also now on view, until March 19, 2017, is Jackie Ferrara: Lines, "eight wall drawings each anchored by imagined architecture", located in the Drawing Center's Lab Corridor. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner:
Featuring Watercolors and Drawings from the Robert Lehman Collection
This exhibition at Galerie St. Etienne explores the relationship between Kirchner's sketches and his work in other media, spanning his entire career and including rare woodcuts, lithographs and etchings. Some of these prints are unique or virtually unique, being examples from the extremely small editions that he printed himself. is the subject of a Retrospective Exhibition at The Old Print Shop, with over 100 prints plus over 30 drawings, watercolors and oil paintings on view, through May 14, 2016. Lewis was born in 1881 in Australia. He began to study drawing and painting and left for the United States in 1900, living in New York City by 1909. He created 147 drypoints, etchings, mezzotints, aquatints and lithographs between 1915 and 1953 and started a printmaking school in NY with Armin Landeck and George Miller in the 1930s. The school failed during the depression years. Lewis later taught at The Art Students League in NYC from 1944 to 1952. He died in 1962. Printing Women: Three Centuries of Female Printmakers, 1570-1900
is the show on view at the New York Public Library Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street, in the third floor Prints and Stokes Galleries. The library description states that this collection has not been shown since 1901 and will feature well-established artists such as Angelica Kauffman. The exhibit will continue to May 27, 2016.
Suspended Animation: Moving Images in Print
at the International Print Center New York, remains on view until June 4, 2016. Works by nine contemporary artists are included in an immersive environment of wall projections, screens, site specific installations and the printed works that are often the source of the animations.
