Promoting Fine Art Printmaking across the Midlands
Our new course programme for January - July 2014 will be launched at our Printmaking Bazaar on Wednesday 6th November, 6pm - 9pm. Join us to celebrate printmaking - share the news with your friends, family and colleagues and join the event on facebookhere.
Come along and be the first to book onto next year’s courses, including Bank Holiday specials in letterpress & textile screenprinting, a return from much-loved artist Carry Akroyd and an introduction to silk aquatint collagraphs.

You can reserve a place on any of our courses using the online booking form, by email, or by calling us on 0116 255 3634. We can take payment by card over the phone, or you can send payment by cheque if you prefer.

What's Coming Up

Our second Printmaking Bazaar is taking place here at LPW on Wednesday 6th November, from 6pm - 9pm. We hope you can join us.
We'll be selling hand-printed gifts, Christmas cards and vouchers for printmaking courses. The focus is our fundraiser, The £25 Original Print Extravaganza. View a selection of prints that will be available on the evening on our Flickr page.

A Summer Alphabet - Print & Film
A Summer Alphabet is a fundraising print project produced by LPW artist Peter Clayton. The print will be launched at our Printmaking Bazaar in a limited edition of 27 four colour silkscreen prints, sold at £27 each. All the money raised from sales of the prints will go towards our fundraising target for this year.
Our Communications & Admin Officer, Katharine Brown filmed and interviewed Peter as he made the edition, and this footage has been edited into a beautiful short film that you can watch here. Enjoy!

We have spaces on the following courses coming up in November & December:
Inhouse courses, at Leicester Print Workshop
Big Type in a Weekend - extra date added due to popular demand, Saturday 23rd November 10am - 4pm. Working on A3 paper and using larger type, you will learn how to set, ink and print type to create striking, bold posters using a range of ink colours. Ideal for type lovers everywhere.
Paper engineering - origami and book folding, Sunday 17th November, 10am - 4pm. Using a variety of paper based materials you will explore methods of origami, paper engineering, pop-up and simple bookmaking techniques to create stunning pieces of paper sculpture.
Monoprinting, Sunday 1st December 10am - 4pm. Learn a unique take on monoprinting with our Artist in Resident Kate Da'Casto.
Offsite @ Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum
Introduction to Silkscreen & Stencils,Saturday 7th December 10.30am - 4.30pm. Inspired by the work of Joseph Beuys and working on a small scale you will explore the basics of this popular technique.
Offsite @ Rufford Craft Centre, Olerton, North Notts
Introduction to Lino Cut and Collage, Saturday 9th November 10.30am - 4.30pm. Experiment with relief printing and collage techniques.
Offsite @ Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham
Drawn and Direct Monoprinting, Saturday 15th February 2014, 10am - 4pm. Explore monotype and block printing techniques.

LPW Exhibitions

We're delighed with our partnership with Compton Verney and our exhibition A Fantastical Animal Alphabet which runs until 15 December 2013.
Inspired in part by Compton Verney’s collection of the designer Enid Marx’s animal alphabet prints and to coincide with the Autumn exhibition Curious Beasts: Animal Prints from the British Museum artists from Leicester Print Workshop have created an alphabet of prints. Read more
You can see brilliant new work by artists Peter Clayton, Kate Da Casto, Alison D'Oyley, Sally Hill, Deborah Hopson-Wolpe, Sat Kalsi, Sarah Kirby, Soraya Smithson & Gemma Wright.
Pop Up Studio
As well as the Alphabet, our Artist in Residence, Kate Da Casto is be based at a pop up studio at Compton Verney on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the exhibition. Kate can be found sketching and preparing new work for a special edition for Leicester Print Workshop & Compton Verney as well as talking about and demonstrating various printmaking techniques to visitors.

Practical Dialogue exhibition at Embrace Arts,Leicester until 6 December 2013
Practical Dialogue is a new project & exhibition created and led by former LPW Artist in Residence Sue Baker Kenton.
Two tutors from LPW, Peter Clayton and Serena Smithtogether with Sue are partnered with three artists, the photographer Gordon Millar, and painters Richard Devereux and Gino Ballantyne to produce new work in a printmaking collaboration. The show includes screenprints, lithographs and etchings as well as artist books and proofs.Read more

Desperate To Print at The Print Room, until 7th January 2014
The Print Room is our exhibition space at the LCB Depot. Currently showing is an exhibition of new work by LPW member and trustee Liza Lee.
Working in collagraph, linocut and screenprint, Liza captures the cells and matter that defines us, presenting a microscopic world of possibilities. Read more
Desperate To Print is at The Print Room until 7th January 2014. LCB Depot, 31 Rutland Street, Leicester LE1 1RE. The Depot is open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.30pm. The Print Room is sometimes used for meetings, so please call the LCB Depot on 0116 261 6800 to check availability before making your visit.

Twilight Printmaking Sessions for Art Teachers & Technicians

To complement our workshops in schools we offer art teachers and technicians a termly 3 hour session designed to provide an opportunity to learn new skills or revisit old ones, in a sociable environment.
Take your choice, experiment with lino, drypoint, collagraph and take away some ideas that can be adapted to your own learning enviroment.
If you want to know more about printmaking workshops we run with teachers or within schools and community settings pleaseget in touch.

Visiting Leicester Print Workshop

We are currently open Tuesday 10am - 5pm, Wednesday 10am - 8pm and Thursday 10am - 5pm, plus the first full weekend of every month, Saturday & Sunday from 10am - 5pm.
We are next open for Open Access on Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd November, followed by Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th December.
We always welcome visitors to the studio. Please get in touch if you would like to visit the studio so we can make sure that a technician is available to show you around.

Becoming a Member of LPW

Leicester Print Workshop is the centre for Fine Art Printmaking in the Midlands. Our fully equipped studio based in Highfields, Leicester, close to the City Centre and Leicester Rail Station welcomes beginners and experienced printmakers alike.
We have facilities at the studio for screenprinting, letterpress printing, stone lithography, etching and drypoint etching, linocut, woodcut, mezzotint, collagraph, monoprint and more.
We offer two types of Membership; Full Print Membership and Associate Membership.
Full Print Members can use our studio during Open Access hours to print. Our Open Access hours are Tuesday 10am - 5pm, Wednesday 10am - 8pm and Thursday 10am - 5pm., plus the first weekend of every month, Saturday & Sunday 10am - 5pm.
To become a Full Print Member, you must be fully competent in your chosen printmaking technique. Associate Membership is perfect for those who do not need to use the printmaking facilties of the Workshop but who would like to benefit from some of the perks of being a member of LPW - a monthly newsletter filled with printmaking news and opportunities, the chance to take part in our member exhibitions, access to our framing area, specialist materials at affordable prices and the opportunity to be featured free on the LPW website.
