Virginia Commonwealth University
Kinetic Imaging MFA program
The Kinetic Imaging MFA program strives to expand and integrate the fields of video, experimental animation, interactive media and sound through art production that explores critical inquiries on media, culture and society. Potential works may include media projects that take such forms as text, installation, and performance, embracing both narrative and experimental approaches in cyber, physical or hybrid space. In a world that increasingly uses moving images and sounds to communicate information while redefining new technology and ideas of community, our program enables students to produce creative works that contribute to and challenge the rapidly evolving dialogue in emerging media arts. While still a relatively new program, KI MFA students have shown their work internationally, including exhibits in Turkey, Pakistan, Korea, India, and Canada, as well as the United States. MFA faculty include Stephen Vitiello, Bob Kaputof, Bob Paris, Pam Turner, and Semi Ryu. Their media specification reflects sound art, video sculpture, experimental animation, socially engaged media and virtual puppetry.
