INTERNATIONAL PRINT BIENNALE 2014
BACKGROUND
We are pleased to announce the third International Print Biennale will take place from 27 June to 8 August 2014. The event celebrates the role of print in contemporary practice and is the only event of its kind in the UK.
In 2011, we welcomed an audience of over 153,000 from all over the world to print exhibitions and events across the region with 15,000 taking part in public events and learning activities.
Galleries, museums, libraries and artists across the North East will present exhibitions and events that celebrate historical and contemporary printmaking. In previous years venues as diverse as Baltic, Bowes Museum and Vane have taken part and presented exhibitions from across the globe including exhibitions from Ikon Gallery, Centre for Fine Print Research (UWE, Bristol) and Tamarind Institute, USA. We anticipate more than 15 venues taking part and look forward to announcing the full programme early in 2014.
The 2014 International Print Awards are the centrepiece of the International Print Biennale. The Awards are an open submission opportunity for British and international artists and are open to all artists whose work encounters print. Works in any medium will be considered and is not restricted to 2 or 3 dimensional works.
Exhibitions of the selected works will be shown as part of the International Print Biennale at the Hatton Gallery and Northern Print from June to August 2014.
All selected artists will be featured in the catalogue with a colour image, biography and statement and on the International Print Biennale website. In addition, all selected artists will be invited to the Private View and Prize Announcement.

The 2014 International Print Awards will include a number of residency, bursary and purchase prizes. Further information about the Prizes will be updated here as they are confirmed. At present the following Prizes are offered:
The Bryan Robertson Trust Award - £6000
A cash prize awarded to one artist.
Northern Print International Residency Prize*
This is a short residency open to non-UK based artists. This prize will include travel and accommodation to use Northern Print’s printmaking studio in Newcastle upon Tyne.
V&A Print Prize *
The winning print will be included in the V&A's collection and featured on the V&A's website with text about the print by Gill Saunders, Senior Curator (Prints). To view the article for the 2009 winner, Bronwen Sleigh, please click HERE, and for the 2011 winner, Dawn Cole, please click HERE.
Note: Please be aware that the selected print will require the artist to donate their print to the V&A collection. This is not a purchase prize.
Clifford Chance Purchase PrizeA purchase prize and an opportunity for the selected artist to show a wider selection of their work at Clifford Chance's London offices at Canary Wharf.
National Glass Centre Residency Prize *
An opportunity for an artist to explore techniques in glass and print supported by specialist staff using National Glass Centre’s extensive production facilities (ie screenprinting, kilnforming, waterjet cutting, vinyl cutting and sandblasting). The residency is offered between 29 April and 9 May 2013. This prize includes travel within the UK, accommodation, a materials allowance and an exhibition at National Glass Centre of work made during the residency.
Northern Print Collaborative Prize *
An opportunity for an artist to work with master printmaker, Kip Gresham (The Print Studio, Cambridge) to develop skills and create new work. Accommodation and travel are not included.

HOW TO ENTER
Artists can enter online. However, if artists are unable to enter online please contactipb@parkerharris.co.uk for further details.
Artists are invited to submit up to 10 images or documentation of their recent work, a series or sequence of works where the work encounters print. Please note the online entry will allow you to upload three images at one time. Once uploaded please wait and the page will refresh and you can then upload the next three images, and so on. The selectors are aware that some work may not lend itself to reproduction and wish to reassure artists that there may be opportunities to view actual works. If appropriate, artists should explain in their statement how their work encounters print and if there are any site specific or installation requirements.
SELECTION PROCESS
At the first stage, artists are required to submit the following:
► The completed online entry form► Images of a max of 10 recent works, series or sequence of works in digital format (jpg, tiff or png max 500kb)
► An up to date supporting CV (maximum of one side of A4)
► A supporting statement (max 200 words)
► A non-refundable £25 or €30 euros application fee per artist will be charged for administration.
Applications online should be paid through Paypal. Please note: A Paypal account is not needed to pay through Paypal.
Following the selection process, all artists will be notified of the Selectors' decision by 17 March 2014, if for any reason artists have not heard by this date please contact Parker Harris either by email or telephone 01372 462190.
From the open submission applications the panel will select approximately 30 artists. Some artists may be required to supply additional information or in some cases actual work for viewing prior to selection. This will be organised individually with each artist.
The artists selected for final exhibition will be notified by 14 April 2014. The artists selected for final exhibition will be notified by Parker Harris with the delivery details for their work. Selected work can be delivered either to the exhibition venues directly or to a London art carrier. Full details and dates for delivery will be sent to all selected artists.
In addition to the selected artists’ work, the panel will also invite 3 artists to be represented in the exhibition. In 2009 the invited artists were Louise Bourgeois, Daryl Waller and Richards Wood and in 2011, the invited artists were Jake & Dinos Chapman, Robin Duttson and Barthelemy Toguo. The 2014 invited artists will be announced shortly.
