Winners will be featured and finalists’ names  published in the December 2014 issue of The Artist’s Magazine. Nine finalists will be featured in the “Competition Spotlight” in The Artist’s Magazine , 12 finalists will be featured as “Artist of the Month” on our website and the works of twelve finalists will be offered on our website as desktop wallpaper.
Plus, the Student/Beginner Division (for artists age 16 or over who (1) have been enrolled in a post-high school art program for no more than four years OR (2) have pursued art on their own or in workshops/lessons for no more than four years):

Award Winners in the Student/Beginner division will be featured in the January/February 2015 issue of The Artist’s Magazine.

CATEGORIES
Portrait/Figure
Portrait and figure entries can be individuals or groups, and will be judged on expressiveness and draftsmanship.
Portrait/Figure Juror: Casey Baugh

Still Life/Interior
Entries will be judged on overall design, unique arrangement of subject matter, handling of medium, lighting and mood.
Still Life/Interior Juror: Jimmy Wright

Landscape
Any landscape, from city scenes to imaginary horizons, will be judged on the creative use of form, space, lighting and mood.
Landscape Juror: Alexandra Tyng

Abstract/Experimental
With unlimited subject matter, entries will be judged on creative use of design, texture, media, lighting or special techniques.

Animal/Wildlife
Any animal in any setting is fair game for this category. Entries will be judged on the innovative handling of the subject, the expression and rendering.

ELIGIBILITY
ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open to artists anywhere in the world working in traditional media. Only two-dimensional, original artwork, conceived and created by the entrant, will be considered. Two-dimensional means that a mixed media cannot exceed an inch in depth. “Original” means that if a painting is based on photos, the photos were taken by the artist. “Traditional media” meaning:  Oil, oil pastel, soft pastel, charcoal, ink, watercolor, casein, gouache, acrylic, mixed media (all water media or oil based media); silver or other metal point, collage; mixed media collage; handmade paper; wax and other crayons on paper or board; printmaking (etching, mezzotint, lithography, woodcut, monotype, mono print, aquatint).
Photography, with the exception of minor elements incorporated in a collage, will not be considered. Neither digital art nor sculpture will be considered. Employees of F+W Media, Inc. and their immediate families are not eligible.
PREPARING YOUR ENTRY
You may enter work in any and all categories; there is no limit to the number of entries you may submit. Enter online or mail all your entries on one CD. If entering by mail, please include a separate sheet that gives the title, medium (oil, watercolor, etc.) and dimensions of each image. All digital files submitted on a CD must be accompanied by an Entry Form. The file names of the images on the CD must match the titles on the sheet.
The file must be saved as a JPEG in RGB color mode (not CMYK). files may not exceed 5MB.
Incomplete entry forms will be disqualified.
FEES AND PAYMENT
All early-bird entries (submitted on or before April 1) in the Student/Beginner Division (for artists age 16 or over who (1) have been enrolled in a post-high school art program for no more than four years OR (2) have pursued art on their own or in workshops/lessons for no more than four years) are $15 image. All other entries are $25 per image. Entries submitted after April 1 are $20 for student entries and $30 for all other entries. You may send one check to cover all entries in a package. Or you may enter online.
MATERIALS
The Artist’s Magazine will not be responsible for the loss, damage or return of any CDs submitted to the competition.
DEADLINEEarly-bird entries must postmarked or submitted online by 11:59 EST on April 1, 2014. Entries for the regular deadline must be postmarked or submitted online by May 1, 2014.
JUDGING
Entries will be prejudged and then finalists will be chosen by the magazine staff. Award winners and honorable mentions will be selected by the jurors named above. All properly prepared entries will be viewed and judged. The decision of the jurors is final. The jurors reserve the right to re-categorize entries.
NOTIFICATION
All winners will be notified by August 1, 2014. The results will not otherwise be made public until they are published inThe Artist’s Magazine. Non-winning entrants will not be individually notified of the results. Your cancelled check or credit-card charge will be notification for receipt of your entry.
PRIVACY PROMISE
