Ewa Budka is a Polish artist/printmaker who has created work in the alternative printmaking process called Mokulito, which uses wood as a printing matrix in place of the limestone used for lithography. The process was originated in Japan by the artist Seishi Ozaku and can be used to produce both lithographic marks and the carved shapes and lines of woodcut together on a single image. Born in Katowice, Poland, Budka has been a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She learned of the process through her father, Józef Budka, well-known as a lithographer/instructor, and she has lectured widely on her research of Mokulito. A video introduction is available at vimeo.com and a short text synopsis at: printsquad.tumblr.com
