Península opens the registration period to take part in the Spring edition of its residency program, a place for reflection, the revision of ideas, and sharing of works. This is a space and time of experimentation, distant from the daily pressures and inserted into a collective context. A total of three artistic proposals will be chosen in this open call, whose period for receiving requests is to remain open until August 27th, in which artists are to carry out residencies from October 11th, 2017 to November 10th, 2017. The residency is a group format, 3 artists in residence simultaneously. The main goal of this programme is to create a space to promote possible collaborations between residents and the local art scene, community and surroundings.
The Peninsula gallery is an artist-run space that devotes its attention to artistic practices as a platform for the development of collaborative projects.
The workspace is shared and the residence can generate a 3-week show or an open studio. The support, networks and creative environment offered by Galeria Peninsula Programme encourages professional/artistic development and international contacts.
The selected artists will have the opportunity to live and work in the city of Porto Alegre, the Southern most Brazilian capital and with easy access to the neighbors of Mercosur, especially Uruguay and Argentina. The selected artists will be able to join all the activities promoted by Galeria Peninsula (no charge applied), such as talks, meetings with curators, research groups, studio visits and exhibitions tours.
THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM INCLUDES:
shared studio
curatorial follow-up, with weekly one-to-one meetings to monitor the project under development
shared apartment with single room
studio visits and exhibitions tours
opportunity to propose and minister workshops
an open studio event or a group show of 3 weeks
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Applications will be accepted and should be emailed to galeriapeninsula@gmail.com through August 27th, 2017, 11:59 p.m. Brasilia time. Subject: ‘Residency Application’ and the following information in a single PDF file:
Your Resume/Curriculum Vitae. Please title this document with your lastname, firstname, resume (with no dots, commas or spaces). Example: jonesjoanresume.pdf or jonesjoanresume.doc.
A statement outlining your residency project, motivation, what you expect from the residency and what you hope to achieve (300 words max).
A statement describing your practice/research and areas of interest (500 words max).
Between 10 and 20 images of recent work with dimensions, technique, title and date.
Only for residents in Brazil, proof of residence.
ELIGIBILITY
Application is open to artists from all over the world who have been professionally active for at least the past 2 years. Disciplines included: all practices in Visual Arts.
CRITERIA
The artists will be selected by the Peninsula artists.

INVESTMENT
€ 2,500 (with accommodation) - for non-residents of Brazil
R$ 5,000 (with accommodation) - for residents of Brazil
EUR 650 - registration fee to be paid upon acceptance + remaining fee - EUR 1850 to be paid prior to arrival.
Materials available to be used in the studio space: basic tools, projector, LCD TV and speakers.
Applicants willing to take part in our program are expected to self-fund or apply for funding to cover costs involved. We are happy to support all applicants with invitation letters.
Please note that obtaining a VISA is responsibility of the applicant. Make sure to check with your local Brazilian Consulate if a VISA is required.
