The Siena Art Institute offers an exceptional study abroad opportunity for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students pursing their studies in visual arts and creative writing. We encourage our undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students to grow and learn during their time here through a wide range of exciting and innovative courses, as well as city arts workshops, public arts programming, and diverse cultural experiences. A range of scholarships are available for the fall 2014 semester (including full- and half-tuition).
The core of our semester program is the Art & Society course, a dynamic and innovative inter-disciplinary course in which students work on both individual and collaborative projects investigating the intersection of art and civic life. This course enables art students to develop substantive projects to further their portfolio development, to have numerous opportunities to interact with a diverse array of artists, and to deepen their understanding of contemporary art practices, and the various roles that artists can play in a broader social context.
In addition, we offer a variety of elective courses including Painting, Photography, Ceramics, Silver-smithing, Art History, Creative Writing, Digital Multimedia and Installation, and more. All students are provided anindividual studio space at the Siena Art Institute.
There is no Italian language prerequisite for applicants, and all courses are taught in English. However, students are required to enroll in our Italian Language and Culture course (at the beginner, intermediate, or advanced level) to facilitate their involvement with the Sienese community and to establish a dialogue with their new environment.
All classes are led by the teaching faculty of the Siena Art Institute, and all our professors are fluent in both English and Italian. In addition, several visiting artists, including Project Fellow Wafa Hourani, will be in residence during the fall 2014 semester to mentor students and pursue both collaborative and independent artistic projects. Throughout the year, the Siena Art Institute selects accomplished professional artists and writers for residencies, a valuable component of our program, offering insight and inspiration to our students.
